If you're reading this file, it's because I've finally decided to hang my terminal connection up, at least for a while. I need to take a break. Hell, I deserve a break. I know that a lot of you out there probably don't think that running a MUD is all that much work, particularly a MUD that has been around as long as ElvenMUD has. Well, let me be the one to tell you, it is a tremendous amount of work. We have always worked very hard here to make certain that the MUD doesn't become stagnant, unchanging, etc. If the MUD never offers anything new, it's no fun for the players that have been around for a very long time, and that's not good. After all, this MUD has always been and will always be for the players, first and foremost. As I look around the MUD world and see the plethora of MUDs that exist primarily so those in power can get the rush of being a God, a Creator, whatever... I want to be ill. I'm grateful that ElvenMUD has always had a corps of Powers that shared my vision. I still have that vision.. I still want this place to grow. I have a ton of ideas, most of which you will see implemented within the next few months, as we build toward Version 5, due out around Christmas 1999 (well, that's a very tentative date.. don't hold us to it. *grin*). Many of the players and Powers here are steadily working toward that goal. When we reach Version 5 completion ElvenMUD will finally be complete in my eyes. Many of the ideas we are putting in have been on the table for years. I dearly hope that you all love the new features. If you don't, well, that's your call, after all. All we do is try. (If you have some suggestions, by all means: elven@chunk.mudservices.com.) Anyway.. as I wrap this up (yes, I know.. long-winded Legolas is at it again), I want to give special thanks to a few players, most notably: Ivy, for keeping me sane during a very tough period in my life that threatened to drive me up a tree, never to come down; Hope, for being a breath of fresh air into Elven once again, for being a true friend; God, for his frequent coding help, and most of all, Ellyll, for his tremendous patience and diligence in dealing with me as his boss and ElvenMUD as his project. Ellyll is currently working on a tremendously large project that will greatly enhance running for all, we hope. If I've left anyone out, please don't feel slighted.. my head is swimming with hundreds of players over the years that have impacted my life and this MUD.
